Hello!
I’m Teo Ulusoy and welcome to a small selection of some of my projects!
Formally a graduate of Computer Science, I primarily focus on UX/UI design with an affinity for data visualization.

In my spare time I enjoy co-operative games of both table-top and digital varieties, as well as tinkering with some beginner electronics and crafts.
Disability Data Project: Measure What Matters
An interactive data visualization showcasing Canadian provincial programs and expenditures on supporting people with disabilities. This project started at a NeuroNexus Hackathon event with the initial proposition coming from the Schulich School of Public Policy. The webpage is kept simple, with the map of canada used as a filter and The visualization itself consists of 3 simple graphs: a pie graph, a bar chart, and a line graph. The sidebar shows whether the selected province(s) comply with various UNCRPD policies. The project UI and interactions were designed by yours truly, with a majority of the implementation done in D3.js by my project partner.

Website Re-design: Implementing Figma designs with React and CSS
Following the mock-up practice, I wanted to understand the process of transferring designs from Figma to a working website. This would also serve to address some of the inadequate choices I made with the last website revision as well as get some additional practice using React.js more appropriately.

Learning Figma: Transitioning from Adobe XD
After years of using Adobe XD for various personal mock-ups, with the help of online resources, I transitioned to using Figma and its workflow. The motivation for learning figma was both the added versatility of using two of the leading products for prototyping digital interfaces as well as Adobe XD’s increasingly obtuse and unfriendly practices.

VR Bar Charts: Study and Research
A study examining how viewers in virtual reality (VR) environments interact with simple data visualizations at scales ranging from hand-sized to room-sized. We also explore how the addition of virtual annotation and filtering tools affects how viewers solve basic data analysis tasks. We report on two studies, inspired by previous examinations of data physicalizations.

Arduino powered "High Five Glove"
With the goal of creating a wearable using an Arduino board I create a fun glove with the express purpose of rating high fives. Serving as my first foray into programming with physical electronics and wearables as well as an introduction to the arduino board, this project represents a rudimentary implementation of LED’s, accelerometers, and touch detection.

Formula 1 lap time Visualization
In 2014, Formula 1 racing underwent drastic changes in which V8 engines were swapped out for turbocharged V6's, much to the chagrin of the F1 crowd. I decided to see if this change had a lasting effect on laptimes in the years following the rule change. Through analysis I find that lap times did slow for about a year, but very quickly reached times equivalent to before the rule change. The data is visualized in a stylistic and interactive D3.js graph.

Hygge Yarn Pit
A Kinect + Unity based project using the body tracking potential of the kinect to create a simple application centered around the idea of /”Hygge/” aesthetics. The end demonstration was imagined within the context of a bus or train stop where those that enter the playspace could participate in a low stakes bit of competition.

Spatial Audio Interactions with Unity VR
A Unity based project with the goal of changing the focus of 360 videos from sight to hearing. The goal was to encourage the use of hearing to locate objects in 3D space and highlight its importance in navigating a 3D environment.

Data Analysis: OpenNASA meteorite data
Using Data from OpenNASA and powered by Tableau, I analyze patterns and the underlying reasons behind meteorite landing/sighting data. Focusing on finding any factors that may contribute to the distribution of meteorite sightings and discoveries I ultimately find that they are closer related to human activity than climate or geography.
